I have used Dollar these times, each car was in excellent condition, and service has always been brilliant. I would recommend and continue to use going forward. Only fault is that they have recently moved out of the airport to an off-site location which requires a shuttle bus.

I had very same experience than most others here. THIS COMPANY IS SCAM!!!! When you pickup they rush you and if you didn’t take a video of every minor blemish, they would arbitrarily charge you whatever they want at the time of return. My rental car had 100K kilometers and they told me that there were 2 small cracks and I should have taken a video to confirm otherwise. Highly stupid and ridiculous. Especially, if you’re from US, this is the worst rental experience. They should go out of business. I’m disputing with my AMEX Platinum.

Waited 30 mins for pickup from the airport. Driver, esme, was very polite and good natured, and a credit to the company. Upon returning the car, a different, rather impolite employee said β€œI just need to check something” and went to the drivers seat and immediately pointed out to us two tiny stone chips in the top right corner of the windscreen. She immediately said that we were liable and that we would have to pay for it ($100 + GST). The rental agreement and inspection sheet definition of β€œNormal wear and tear” apparently excludes windscreens, even though I couldn’t find it in the list of exclusions from the rental agreement cover. It’s almost as if the employees are told to make a beeline to the windscreen to see if they can make a buck or two. I am very annoyed and disappointed in the attitude of the staff and I have never experienced anything like this in years of renting vehicles. We did a thorough walk around before taking the car and already noted a number of dents and scratches on the car that weren’t on the inspection sheet. It was almost like we were being set up. Either that, or basic incompetence. I RECOMMEND YOU AVOID THIS COMPANY unless you’re willing to take a gamble and risk a hefty bill and ruining your trip.

BAD experience there. If I had read these reviews earlier I would never use this service. It is not at the airport, but a more than 10 minutes drive away. For a very minor dent, I got a quotation of $800 from the repairer, but when they used the same repairer for the dent, they forwarded an invoice of $1260. HIDDEN PEOPLE. HIDDEN COSTS. Thank you for the reply. The information helps a lot, but I am still wondering what time the "full inspection of the damage" to give a different quotation was conducted. When I brought the vehicle in, your provider examined the car damage and quoted $800 verbally. He did explain that the invoice would be sent to Dollars Queenstown, but he also said clearly that there would be no difference between the quotation to me (verbal) and the quotation to Dollars (written). If such a significant difference ($460) existed, he would have let me know when I was waiting there for him to email the quotation to Dollars. Then I drove to Dollars Reception, where I was told that the invoice might have been sent to the manager and the manager might be at a meeting, so I did not have to wait for that. I trusted Dollars staff and continued to use the car for the rest of the day. Since the car was with me after that, I do not think that the "full inspection of the damage" mentioned in your response can be completed that day. On the same day, as you said, Dollars Queenstown sent me the written quotation/invoice, which is much different from what I got from your provider.

I was reading yesterday through the comments. And would like to post a positive feedback as I was really happy with the service from Dollar Queenstown. First of all I asked for a later drop off as our flight was delayed, which we were able to do so without any complain or extra charge. The women was very friendly when handing in the car. She offered her help with the loading of our luggage to the shuttle bus. She drove us carefully to the airport and helped with unloading the luggage. Great service as you can expect it. Thanks again.

My first time using a rental company and overall the experience was smooth. I ended up getting an upgrade from a Toyota Yaris to a Hyundai Accent, which was great! Everything was ready and on time so no issue there. Only issue I had was the misinformation from maybe a new employee who was trying to make me purchase Insurance again when I had already purchased it online through webjet. Besides that everything was great! Car was new and in great condition and drove smoothly. Thank you! Will definitely use your services again in the future.

I was worried about the previous bad reviews, but my experience here was nothing but excellent. The car pickup was a smooth and quick experience. I got a great compact car that has back up camera and blue tooth connection. It was my first time driving on the left side of the road but no issues! Be sure to take photos of the vehicle upon pickup so that you have a good record of its conditions upon returning. FYI, gas is expensive in NZ compared to the US!

Be careful renting from here. Firstly, ensure you allow plenty of time to be picked up and dropped off, as both took a lot longer than expected. Secondly, take at least three photos of every panel (at different angles) of the car before you exit their yard and get them to update the marked damage sheet with EVERYTHING - even the smallest blemishes. And finally, if there are any issues upon return of the car, do not leave the premises until there is an agreed course of action. Our personal experience with Dollar Car Rentals was poor and ended up in a dispute which whilst being ultimately resolved, was an awful way to end an otherwise wonderful holiday to NZ. Car quality was okay and it was a cheap offer - hence 2 stars rather than 1 - but I won’t be using the company again.
